This is the most beautiful time of the year in the forests. Expect the ephemeral wildflowers to be in full bloom early as a result of our warm winter and join us to enjoy them. We will be in a tranquil forest which is situated atop a glacial era kame, a collection of sand and gravel. This will allow for views inward to the forest, and outward from the kame!
The Forest Preserve of Kane County says it best about this idyllic place: “It is important not to try to add too many other features or activities here for there is a danger of losing the important peace and solitude for incidental or trivial improvements.”
Johnson’s Mound is located on Hughes Road, approximately 2 miles west of Fabyan Parkway. Take Randall to Fabyan and go west 2 miles on Fabyan. After Fabyan curves to the left Hughes begins on the right side and you can continue going west. Easy to spot, this site is a hill rising some 200 feet above the rolling prairie around it.
