Location
Kay MacNeil’s Yard

Kay MacNeil’s one-acre yard in the Prestwick subdivision of Frankfort is all ”Kay,” – designed, created, and maintained!  She gardens for wildlife with many butterfly host plants, hummingbird plants, shade, sun, a nice mix of native and non-native.  Many of her favorites have been inherited from her mother and grandmother. Ask about her secret pawpaw pollinating trick.  This garden has received many awards and been in Chicagoland Gardening Magazine three times.

You can read more in depth about Wild Ones Life Member Kay’s yard in the Wild Ones Journal Autumn 2018 Vol. 31 No. 4, page 4, “Member Garden.”

Kay is the creator and director of Milkweed for Monarchs, so plan to pick up lots of monarch butterfly information in her yard.  Milkweed seed and pawpaw seeds will be available.  Kay has designed her own trellises and sculpture, executed by Al Vorreyor, an “Illinois Artisan.”

Direction Tips: Get off Rte. 80 at Harlem Ave. and go south.

Once you are in Prestwick Subdivision’s north entrance, go past the water tower, go past the country club.  Golf Club is the first street after the country club.  Go to the bottom of the hill.  Look for a three-car garage and a brick wall.  See you there!
